Scott Welsh was born and raised in the small town of Apex, North Carolina.  His work deals with self-analysis with intermingling themes of gender and duality.  Currently, he is obsessed with the idea of duality and human ambivalence towards insecurities.  Welsh portrays the things we don’t talk about, the things we lock away, in an attractive yet uncomfortable way.  He blurs the stereotypes of masculinity and femininity while attempting to readjust beauty standards and roles in our society.  It’s through this obsession with androphilia, gender and identity that he is able to portray a human body that is without inhibition.  a human confident in who they are.

A recent graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design, with a BFA in painting, Welsh is working as a professional artist.  Honored with receiving the Emerging Artist Residency, from Artspace, Raleigh, N.C. Welsh plans on building his portfolio in preparation to continue his education towards a MFA.
